Bedford Rotary race series starts Sept. 23

BEDFORD — The Bedford Sunrise Rotary Club has launched a new Rotary Race Series to provide recreational opportunities while supporting community causes.

The first race is the Evitts Mountain Challenge on Sept. 23, starting and ending at the Bedford Area Middle School.

The Challenge provides a choice of activities, with something for every fitness and ability level. A 5K Walk-Run will take participants from the Middle School to the Heritage Trail’s Craig Ashe Memorial Bridge and back.

The 5-mile course will also include a challenging, rugged run on the Bedford Springs Resort Trails, including some fairly steep uphill terrain. This event will benefit the community service programs of Bedford Sunrise Rotary, including projects like the Heritage Trail, Veteran’s Grove, Polio Eradication, Interact Youth Service Club and more.

Additional events are planned as part of the series in cooperation with other new and previously-existing events, including: Bedford County Pink Ribbon Fun Walk/Run (Oct. 21), Omni Bedford Springs Turkey Trot (Nov. 24) and the Rotary Santa Run, Walk, Roll (Dec. 9) benefiting a variety of local charities and nonprofit projects.
