Allegheny Portage Railroad National Historic Site, Gallitzin, 886-6150

Van Tour of Historic Portage Railroad, 1 p.m. Saturday, meet at the visitor center. Space is limited to 12 people and registration is required for this free tour.

Evening on the Summit: Accidents on the Portage, 8 p.m. Saturday, visitor center auditorium, free presentation.

Heritage Hike: Inclines 6 to 10 Trail, 11 a.m. Sunday, meet at the visitor center. This downhill, strenuous hike over moderately uneven terrain takes about five hours. Wear hiking boots or sturdy shoes and take drinking water and a light snack. The hike is free, but reservations are required.

“Journey Around Lake Conemaugh” Van Tour, daily through Sept. 30, 10 a.m., 1 p.m. and 3 p.m. Reservations are encouraged, but not required. There is no fee for the van tours.

Prince Gallitzin State Park, Patton, 674-1005

Morning Nature Stroll, 10 a.m. Thursday, meet near the Muskrat Beach 3 pavilion. This gentle walk is over mostly level, paved and/or packed gravel roadways and is suitable for wheelchairs and strollers. Wear comfortable shoes and take drinking water, binoculars or a camera.

Family DiscoverE: Forest Explorers, 1 p.m. Thursday, meet at the Point Trailhead parking lot. This walk for families with children ages 4-12 will travel along Deer Trail, just under one mile in length. Wear clothes and shoes that can get dirty and take drinking water.

Youth Outdoor Challenge, 7 p.m. Friday, meet at the pavilion at Pickerel Pond. Challenges for youth ages 14 and older involve using skills such as map-reading, using a GPS or compass, outdoor safety knowledge, plant and animal ID and more.

Military Family Fishing Event, 9:30 a.m. to noon Saturday, Pickerel Pond. Veterans and active military families will learn about fishing and practice some basic fishing skills. Equipment and bait will be provided, no license required. Adults must bring a child and children must bring an adult. This event is free, but pre-registration is required by July 19.

Survival Series: Outdoor Safety Hike, 2 p.m. Saturday, meet at the Point Trailhead parking lot. This is a one-mile walk on Forest and Deer trails. Wear sturdy shoes and take drinking water.

Sunday Stroll, 10:30 a.m. Sunday, meet at the amphitheater. This walk is approximately one mile over fairly easy terrain. Wear comfortable shoes and take drinking water.

Nature at the Beach, 1 to 4 p.m. Sunday, nature table at Muskrat Beach 2. Discover what aliens may be living in your backyard.

“Pennsylvania’s Forest and Logging History,” 7 p.m. Sunday, Historic & Interpretive Center, free presentation.
