SAMA-Loretto to offer children’s art camp

LORETTO — The Southern Alleghenies Museum of Art at Loretto will offer a children’s art camp this summer.

Led by SAMA teaching artist Deb Bunnell, “Under the Sea” will be offered in two separate camps for ages 5 to 10 and 11 to 15.

Camps are taught in small, informal groups to provide campers with exposure to a museum setting, as well as ample opportunities to work with a variety of artistic media.

Children will have the opportunity to enjoy the tropical seas without going on a cruise. Campers will brush up on their drawing skills while also experimenting with pastels, sculpture, potato stamp printing and bubble painting while creating their own underwater creatures, making their own T-shirts and other fun activities.

Each camp begins and ends with a drum circle. Ages 5 to 10 will meet from July 31 through Aug. 4, while the camp for ages 11 to 15 will be held Aug. 7 through 11. Both camps will be held from 12:30 to 3:30 p.m.

The cost is $65 per child, which includes all art materials and snacks. Registra-tion requires a non-refundable $25 deposit and must be received by July 21.

For registration or more information, call the museum at 472-3920.

The camp is sponsored in part by WJAC-TV.
