Homewood auxiliary to hold silent auction
MARTINSBURG — Homewood at Martinsburg’s Auxiliary will host its ninth annual silent auction from 2 to 6 p.m. Friday and 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday in Homewood’s Givler Cultural Center. The winning bids will be determined at 4 p.m. Saturday.
This is the auxiliary’s largest fundraiser, with last year’s proceeds exceeding $10,000.
“This two-day event involves over 100 volunteers, many of whom have been working for several months to plan the auction and organize the donations. Yet all their work would be for nothing if Homewood didn’t have the support of the community taking part and bidding on the items,” said Debbie Pierce, volunteer director. All money raised is used toward projects that enhance the lives of Homewood residents.
While previous events have been held in the Southview Building, this is the first year that the auction is being held in the Givler Cultural Center, which will allow for all items to be organized in one location.
Organizers estimate that more than 500 items will be available for bid.
There will be antiques, collectibles, furniture, paintings, housewares, jewelry and many “theme baskets,” as well as hotel getaway packages and donations from area businesses.
Participants receive a bidding number when they register that they use to anonymously bid on the various items’ bidding sheets. Winners will be contacted by telephone if they submitted the winning bid and are not able to be present at the end of the auction.
“There truly is something for everyone, and it’s an exciting atmosphere as hundreds of community members as well as residents and staff find their favorite items and check to see if they’ve been outbid,” said Pierce.
