Flag-raising ceremony Tuesday to mark Child Abuse Prevention, Awareness Month
From Mirror staff reports
HOLLIDAYSBURG — A special flag-raising ceremony will be held at noon Tuesday at the Blair County Courthouse in recognition of April as National Child Abuse Prevention and Awareness Month.
The Children’s Memorial Flag is to be raised and flown during the month of April to increase the awareness of child abuse in the community.
A short ceremony featuring local children and speakers is to follow.
The flag-raising ceremony also will be the kickoff for Prevent Child Abuse America’s “Pinwheels for Prevention” campaign, according to Blair County’s Children, Youth & Families office, which sponsors the event with support from local police.
Blue and silver pinwheels are to be “planted” in the front of the courthouse to serve as a reminder that everyone plays a role in protecting the smallest citizens of Blair County.
