Allegheny Portage

Railroad National Historic Site, Gallitzin, 886-6150

Staple Bend Tunnel Hike, 2 p.m. Saturday, meet at the tunnel site in Mineral Point. The hike commemorates the 183rd anniversary of the opening of the Allegheny Portage Railroad.

Greenwood Furnace State Park, Greenwood Road, Huntingdon, 667-1800

“Goin For the Green” Spring Hike, 9 a.m. Saturday, meet at Pavilion 1, behind the lake. This is a 6-mile, moderately difficult hike along the trail to the Greenwood Fire Tower and back. Light refreshments will be served.

Chariot of Fire-Safe Solar Observing, 2 p.m. Sunday, visitor center. This program will give instruction on how to safely observe the sun, some sun trivia and information on this summer’s partial solar eclipse.

Prince Gallitzin State Park, Patton, 674-1005

Nature Story Time, 10 a.m. Friday, meet in the lower level of the park office. Children will enjoy a story, participate in a game, activity or demonstration and make a neat craft to take home. Activities are designed for younger children, but all ages are welcome. Reservations are requested.

PA Conservation Heritage Heroes: Maurice Goddard, 2 p.m. Sunday, lower level of the park office. This video presentation will feature the life of Goddard who played a major role in restoring and protecting Pennsylvania’s abundant natural resources.
