Garden program slated for Tuesday

HOLLIDAYSBURG — The St. Vincent De Paul Community Gardens will hold a program at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday at the Care for Creation (C4C) Center, 793 Monastery Road.

Chris Wise from Friends Farm will present “Making the Most of Your Garden.”

Friends Farm is a small family farm near Altoona and Huntingdon.

Wise uses natural and sustainable methods to grow a wide variety of vegetables and fruits, eggs, meats and even honey bees.

She has found it unnecessary to become certified organic as she sells everything she grows directly to her customers. She uses no synthetic pesticides, herbicides or fungicides on her crops. Her animals are raised on pasture with little or no antibiotics.

Wise offers her products for sale through a CSA or vegetable subscription service during the summer and an on-farm market from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturdays, and meats are available by pre-ordering.

Select Saturday evenings throughout the summer and fall, she serves “Harvest Dinners” in the Friends Farm market.

The program is free. For more information, call Pat Trimble at 327-1555.
