IDA celebrates 48th anniversary, installs officers

Improved Dwellings for Altoona Inc. celebrated its 48th anniversary on Aug. 24.

IDA was organized in 1968 in response to the community’s need to improve its housing stock, revitalize neighborhoods and provide decent, affordable dwellings for people of low and moderate income, including the elderly, families and individuals with disabilities.

IDA currently manages 20 housing developments with approximately 1,000 rental units in a four-county area, including Bell Mansion Apartments, Black Diamond Estates, Blair Tower, Chateau of Altoona (Walnut Place and Towne Place), Country Manor, Emerald Estates, Evergreen Manors, Harmony House, IDA Tower, IDACON (The Fairview and The Taylor), Laurelwood Apartments, Lexington Park, Marian House Manor, Mount Nittany Residences, Sylvan Acres, Union Avenue Apartments, Washington Terrace and Woodrow Wilson Gardens.

IDA is also active in community development activities in the City of Altoona.

Officers installed at the 48th annual meeting include Jane L. Gable, president; David L. Diedrich, first vice president; Deacon Jack L. Hoffer, second vice president; the Rev. Douglas R. McGaffin, secretary; John A. Palko, assistant secretary; James F. Kuhn, treasurer; and Kathryn A. Rutter, assistant treasurer.

Joseph G. Keller is the immediate past president.
