‘Bless Her Heart’ benefit is Saturday

“Bless Her Heart,” benefiting Gwendolyn Vey and her family, will be held from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday at the Railroaders Memorial Museum of Altoona.

The event will include chicken barbecue dinners for $15, including potato salad, baked beans and a beer or non-alcoholic drink.

There will be live music by Backlash, Electrify the Farm and Daily Grind, baskets for bidding and cookies and treats by Katie Eberhart.

Inkwell to meet Nov. 3 at Marzoni’s

DUNCANSVILLE – The Inkwell will meet on Nov. 3 at Marzoni’s Brick Oven and Brewing Co., 165 Patchway Road, beginning with dinner at 6 p.m. and followed at 7:15 p.m. with a presentation by Larry Schardt.

The presentation will focus on how to deal with the rejection and criticism writers sometimes face and using the experiences to grow, persist and flourish as a writer.

The Inkwell is a group of individuals dedicated to educating and supporting novice and accomplished writers and is open to writers of all levels and genres.

During the monthly meetings the creativity, craft and business of writing will be emphasized.

The group is supported by Pennwriters Inc., a non-profit multi-genre writing organization established in 1988 as a networking tool for published and aspiring writers. Pennwriters offers an annual three-day writers conference, area events, online courses, email groups and social networks.

The Inkwell in Area 4 Pennwriters covers Bedford, Blair, Cambria, Franklin, Fulton, Huntingdon, Indiana, Juniata, Mifflin and Somerset counties.

The dinner and presentation are open to all writers, from beginner to published. A membership in

Pennwriters is not necessary.
