C-K homecoming celebration next weekend

CLAYSBURG -?The 47th anniversary celebration of the Claysburg-Kimmel Alumni Homecoming will be held Friday and Oct. 1.

On Friday evening, the doors open at 6:30 p.m. for the homecoming dance at the C-K gymnasium. There is a $6 admission charge.

The adult and student dance is from 7 to 9 p.m.

C-K students in grades nine through 12 are permitted to attend this dance. At 9 p.m., there will be the announcement of homecoming king and queen and alumni king and queen. Immediately after the announcement, adults will leave the dance, and there will be a student dance until 10:30 p.m.

On Oct. 1, starting at 11 a.m., Claysburg Preserving Artifacts, Stories and Traditions (PAST) will have a food booth at C-K High School near the auditorium entrance. This booth will remain open during the homecoming parade and continue after the parade until sold out or approximately 4 p.m.

The booth will be selling six types of soup to eat at the booth, as well as take-out quarts of soup. Other food and beverages will be available for purchase. All proceeds from this food booth will be given to the Claysburg Backpack Program. John and Dottie Dively are the co-chairs of this event.

The homecoming parade will begin at 2 p.m. at the Claysburg Little League Field at the north end of town and will proceed through town south to the Claysburg-Kimmel High School. The alumni group needs alumni band members, cheerleaders, majorettes and flag carriers to march in the parade. People and groups are also encouraged to enter floats, cars, etc.

There will be a Claysburg PAST history presentation at 3:30 p.m. in the school auditorium. As people are gathering in the auditorium, there will be a general slide presentation of old photos from the Claysburg area. The 3:30 p.m. show will feature a segment on local Claysburg veterans, given by John Smith, plus a presentation of the Claysburg-Kimmel Future Business Leaders of?America Veterans video that won first place in the FBLA state competition.

Another segment will be on the history of the school district, presented by Elaine Smith. The final segment will be a presentation on General Refractories at Claysburg and Sproul presented by Rich Allison.

Afterward, a general question-and-answer segment will be held. There is no admission charge, but there will be a donation box.

At 6 p.m., the alumni band members and flag carriers will meet near the greenhouse behind the school to march onto the field. At 6:30 p.m., the Alumni Pre-game Show and presentation of the homecoming court will be done on the football field. Then at 7 p.m., the Claysburg-Kimmel football game vs. Everett will begin.

At approximately 9 p.m., the Claysburg-Kimmel Homecoming After-Game Social will be held at the Claysburg Fire Hall, with a $10 admission charge. This is for people who are 21 and older and is a BYOB event.

Food included in the price includes hot dogs, sauerkraut, Texas hot dog sauce, haluski and chips. Soft drinks and water will be available for purchase.

Advance ticket sales will continue until they are sold out. This event is co-sponsored by the Claysburg Volunteer Fire Company and Claysburg PAST to benefit the fire company.
