Zombietown USA accepting registrations for weekend events

The Downtown Altoona Business Community will host ZombieTown USA on Aug. 26 and 27.

ZombieTown USA is a collaboration among local businesses, nonprofit organizations, city leaders and community volunteers.

Event goals are to celebrate Altoona’s diverse community, welcome area students back to town and support local art, culture, history and economy.

Registration is required for these ZombieTown USA activities prior to the event:

n Kick off the weekend at the Blair Senior Services’ zombie dance and contest from 8 a.m.

to 4 p.m. Aug. 26. To register,

n Shear Power Salon is taking appointments for zombie make-up and/or hair at 1408 11th Ave. downtown Altoona from 6 a.m. to noon Aug. 27. Call Michelle at 940-1974 to schedule an appointment. All donations will go to the Family Services Teen Center.

n Get your blood pumping at the Zombie Fun Run on Aug. 27. The first wave starts at 8 a.m. at Heritage Plaza. Registration is $22 per person in advance; registration the day of the event is $30. Register at www.zombietown USA. com or pick up a form at The Summit Tennis & Athletic Club, the Hollidaysburg Area YMCA, the Altoona Area Public Library, Lasser’s Shoe Fly in the Pleasant Valley Shopping Center, Blair Senior Services’ 12th Avenue location and other venues around town.

n Join the Blair County Planning Commission’s Monster March through downtown from 10 to 11 a.m. Aug. 27, assembling at Heritage Plaza 15 minutes before. Pick up a registration form at The Summit, the Hollidaysburg YMCA, the Altoona Area Public Library, Lasser’s Shoe Fly in the Pleasant Valley Shopping Center, Blair Senior Services’ 12thAvenue location and other venues around town or register at www.zombietownUSA.com.

n Practice your aim at the Outdoor City Shooting Range from noon to 6:30 p.m. Aug. 27. A $10 donation buys one magazine of 9mm ammo and equipment rental, and supports the March of Dimes.

n The Blair County Historical Society and Archway Ministries will host a chicken barbecue at noon Aug. 27 at Baker Mansion. The cost is $9, which includes a half chicken dinner. To reserve a dinner, call Beth at 762-6779.
