Kittanning monument completed

Coal Country Hangout Youth Center announced the completion of the third monument in its Kittanning Path series (1714-2014).

The Kittanning Path is an Indian trail which opened the way westward for settlers from the center of Pennsylvania to Kittanning. Its 23-mile length across Cambria County now boasts three beautiful stone and ceramic monuments, designed and created by students under the artistic direction of Terry Johnson, artist-in-residence with the Southern Alleghenies Museum of Art and Artspath/IUP.

The first monument is on Eckenrode Mills Road between Patton and Carrolltown. It was created by students from Cambria Heights High School, Kady Manifest, art teacher.

The second is on Tower Road above Hastings, and it was created by students at Northern Cambria High School, Tracy Scalese, art teacher.

The newest monument is on Route 219 North and Emeigh Road and was created by Purchase Line High School students, Steve Woodrow, art teacher.

All three monuments were made of stone by the masonry students of Jim Vescovi at Admiral Perry Vo-Tech.
