Golf tournament to help sick boy from Altoona

MONTGOMERY – A golf tournament will be held July 19 at White Deer Golf Course, Montgomery, Lycoming County, to benefit Cohen David Allen, a 9-month-old suffering from a congenital heart disease.

Cohen, infant son of David and Stephanie (Bakner) Allen of Altoona, was born Sept. 13, 2013. Experiencing respiratory difficulties at birth, Cohen was transported to a neonatal unit about an hour from home. Two days later, it was determined that Cohen had a heart condition, and he was flown to Children’s Hospital in Pittsburgh, where we was diagnosed with Tetralogy of Fallot with pulmonary atresia and major aortopulmonary collateral arteries.

Cohen is currently recovering from his second open heart surgery.

The Allens have two other children, a son, Hudson (6) and a daughter, Eliza (2).

Hayden’s Heart Golf Tournament Swings for Cohen is organized by Hayden’s Heart Inc., a nonprofit created by Rob and Ady (Smith) Dorsett, formerly of Williamsport, whose son died of a congenital heart defect in August 2012 at 5 months old. The day’s proceeds will benefit Cohen, who has undergone multiple heart surgeries at Children’s Hospital of Pittsburgh since his birth.

Following the tournament, participants can enjoy a lunch at The Sticky Elbow, Williamsport, where winners and awards will be announced.
