State pageant moves to Altoona
The Miss Pennsylvania Junior High, High School and Collegiate America Pageant is seeking contestants to compete at the state pageant on July 26 and 27 at the Blair County Convention Center in Altoona.
Last year’s pageant was held in Lancaster.
The Miss Junior High, High School and Collegiate America Pageant is a scholarship and community service-based pageant that exists for the purpose of providing personal and professional opportunities for junior high, high school and collegiate girls.
Its goal is to provide young ladies the opportunity to compete in a pageant system that has the highest of moral values.
Amber Smith of Altoona is the new Pennsylvania state pageant director and plans to keep the pageants in?Altoona.
The three age divisions are: Junior High, sixth to ninth grade; High School, 10th to 12th grade; and Collegiate, enrolled in a college, university, beauty college or technical school as an undergraduate or post graduate, no older than 27 years old.
The division is based on grade level or enrollment as of Sept. 1. Home-schooled students are eligible based on appropriate academic level.
Contestants will compete in three area of competition: Interview (40 percent), Evening Gown (40 percent), and Fashion Runway (20 percent). There is no swimsuit, aerobic wear or talent portions.
Pennsylvania state winners will receive a prize package, including an academic scholarship and the opportunity to represent the Keystone State at the national pageant and compete for a $10,000 scholarship in Orlando, Fla., in July 2015.
Winners will have the opportunity to travel the state promoting the pageant’s platform and bullying prevention campaign, The Crown C.A.R.E.S., along with making appearances and volunteering in community service activities.
