Local Scout achieves Eagle Scout award
BELLWOOD -?Kalieb Mielnik, 16, of Boy Scout Troop 29 of Bellwood completed his Eagle Scout service project and received his Eagle Scout award during an Eagle Scout Court of Honor on Jan. 26 at The Hope Center in Bellwood, followed by a reception.
Kalieb’s Eagle Scout project included replacing the wooden shelves at The Hope Center with stainless steel shelving units used to store the dry goods for the food giveaways sponsored by the Bellwood-Antis Council of Churches Food Share Program.
He also purchased two large utility carts to help transport the dry goods to be given away. But the main part of his project was to raise the money it costs to purchase the perishable food items from Bellwood Hometown Market for each giveaway.
His goal was to raise $2,800.
Kalieb held fundraisers and raised $3,500 that helped the food giveaway in August.
He planned, organized and, with the help of his family, friends and Boy Scout troop, carried out his project.
Kalieb is a sophomore at Bellwood-Antis High School.
