Claysburg history tour has new concept
CLAYSBURG -?Claysburg Preserving Artifacts, Stories and Traditions will sponsor a new history tour concept on April 26.
The organization held tours covering the Claysburg area in 2012 and 2013. Both tours were sell-outs and a big success.
This year’s three-hour tour will cover the Queen, Klahr, Bullscreek and Friesville areas.
The tour will start at Claysburg Firehall with Bus No. 1 departing at 10 a.m., and the remainder of buses departing 30 minutes apart.
There will be memorabilia and a slide display at the firehall, as well as souvenirs for sale.
Buses will tour the area and also stop at Queen School, Upper Claar Church and Claysburg Elementary School for 30 minutes at each stop.
Along the way, bus narrators will give history talks of important places, things and people.
Then each stop will have information significant to that area and there will be tour information specialists at each location giving talks and answering questions from the tour groups. History information, food and restrooms will be available at each stop.
Soup will be sold at the Queen School. At Upper Claar Church, sandwiches and salads will be available, and at the CK Elementary School, desserts will be available.
All food will be available to either eat in or to take home. Those wishing to take their food home will pay for their food, and the food will be transported back to the firehall for pickup when they return from the tour.
For ease of travelling on the tour, no one will need to carry their food on the tour. Proceeds from the food sales benefit the individual locations serving the food.
At the firehall, the fire company will be selling wings for people to eat in or take home. There will be a large variety of food for people to try. Proceeds benefit the fire company.
Proceeds from the tour will be split among the Claysburg Area Public Library, CK Cares and Learning at the Library, a special preschool program for kids.
Prices will be $12 for adults and $5 for students under 18 years of age. Tickets will be limited to five buses. Tickets are now being sold for the third and fourth buses.
To order tickets, call Janice Crist at 239-5452. Checks should be made payable to Claysburg P.A.S.T.
