Grocers Fight Cancer Day Thursday
The 23rd annual Grocers Fight Cancer Day is slated for Thursday at the Altoona, Bedford, Ebensburg and Indiana Giant Eagle locations.
This one-day-only event, where all proceeds go toward the local American Cancer Society, has a goal to “help bag cancer for good.”
At least 5 percent of all purchases made that day will be donated to the cancer society by the stores. Each store will have special one-day-only sale items, special raffles, and this year, a silent auction.
Celebrity/guest baggers will donate their time at the event.
Highlights for the Altoona location include:
Survivors’ Tent – All day long, with refreshments and place to be recognized, as well as receive information from the ACS.
Fiore True Value Dunking Booth – Ted Beam, Tommy Edwards, Phil Riccio, Neil Rudel, Marc McKillop and more.
Entertainment – Chain-saw artist Tim Klock, Goat Farm and Friends, balloon artist Denny Huber, Galliker’s Ice Cream Wagon, music by Emergency Scene, performance by Allegheny Ballet Company and much more throughout the day.
Highlights from the silent auction include a 1980 Miracle on Ice framed photo, autographed and inscribed by goalie Jim Craig; Mario Lemieux autographed game stick; Beaver Stadium White Out framed photo; Bill Mazeroski Pirates 1960 World Series Home Run autographed photo; Dr. J autographed 76ers jersey; Joe Montana autographed jersey; Jimmie Johnson NASCAR race used sheet metal framed collage; Yankees Stadium Monument Brick; and a Pittsburgh Steelers Steel Curtain autographed framed photo, plus plenty of memorabilia from Pittsburgh and Penn?State sports and entertainers, such as the Beatles, Led Zeppelin and the Rolling Stones.
