Picture Perfect Pet calendar to benefit humane society

The Central Pennsylvania Humane Society announced the start of its annual Picture Perfect Pet Calendar Contest for 2014. The contest features portraits of locally owned pets. The contest includes fundraising on behalf of the participants to have their pets featured in the calendar. Any pet owner is welcome to enter.

To participate, pet owners are encouraged to obtain information sheets and contest rules online at or at the CPHS shelter, 1837 E. Pleasant Valley Blvd., Altoona, or at the CPHS Thrift Shop, 3003 Walnut Ave., Altoona.

The contest requires entrants to submit good quality digital photos or to use a participating professional photographer. If using a participating photographer, the participants will receive two photos for $10. The photos can then be used to assist the owners in raising money in support of their pet. Thirteen pet owners who raise the most money will have their pet’s photo featured as a pet of the month in the calendar (which includes January 2015). Every entry that raises at least $50 will appear in the calendar. The money raised from this contest is used to help the some 5,000 homeless animals that come through the shelter doors yearly. The contest will begin March 1 and end July 1.

This year’s participating professional photographers include Moments Photography, Joe Padula of Stages Photography, Erro Gutshall of Dance of Light Photography, Sager Photo, The Film Center, Studio 36 Photography, Ashley Mastropasqua of Ash Brooks Photography and Tammy Wolfe of London Wolfe Photography.

The calendar also showcases local business supporters with advertising opportunities.

The calendar offers a Rainbow Bridge section in memory of deceased pets with a donation of $20.

The calendars will go on sale in September. To sign up your pet, or for more information on the contest or advertising, call Jill Reigh, CPHS director of outreach and marketing, at 942-2477.
