Return to Romance Feb. 9 will benefit MS Society

DUNCANSVILLE The Keystone Branch, Western Pennsylvania Chapter of the Multiple Sclerosis Society, will host the fourth annual Return to Romance at 6 p.m. Feb. 9 at The Calvin House. Dress is black-tie optional. Tickets are $100 per person or $175 per couple. Tables of eight are also available. WTAJ TV anchor Carolyn Donaldson will emcee the event, which features a silent auction highlighted by a one-half karat diamond, along with rubies, courtesy of Kranich’s Jewelers. Photographs will be taken free of charge by Della Watters of WattersWorks & Co., LLC., and will be developed on site.

“We invite the public to enjoy an evening of hors d oeuvres, dinner, and dancing to music by Kent Martin and Boomerang DJ,” said Anthea L. Germano, public relations coordinator for the Keystone Branch.

“Guests will not only be treated to an evening of fine food, friendship and entertainment, but will also be supporting the MS Society’s role in medical research and education, as well as programs for direct patient services and family support systems,” Germano said.

During the evening’s festivities, the Return to Romance Committee will present the third annual John Carothers Spirit Award to Kimberly Muffie.

Muffie was diagnosed with multiple sclerosis in 1996 at the age of 22. Her son Josh, who is now 16, has participated in every MS walk with his mother since he was 1 year old, and her 11-year-old daughter Emily was awarded a plaque by the MS Society for her fundraising efforts.

Muffie is a physician assistant at Blair Gastroenterology.

She has conquered multiple sclerosis and has helped others do the same.

“I realized I was a mother, a sister, a daughter, a wife, and a strong woman who was not about to let a road block stop me. I found that if I could be strong, I would be a great example to others affected by MS. I tried to help others realize that it is important to not let MS stop you from accomplishing your dreams, whether they be big or small,” Muffie said.

The Keystone Branch of the Western Pennsylvania Chapter of the Multiple Sclerosis Society covers Bedford, Blair, Cambria, Clearfield, Indiana and Jefferson counties.
