The Faith Baptist Cafe will serve the monthly community meal from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday. The meal is free and open to the public at Faith Baptist Church, 315 40th St., in the Highland Park section of Altoona.

The menu includes salisbury steak, scalloped potatoes, mixed vegetables, roll and dessert. For transportation, call the church office at 944-2894 before 3 p.m. today.

A pre-Mother’s Day breakfast will be served from 9 to 11 a.m. Saturday, May 4, at Our Lady of Mount Carmel P.N.C.C. Parish, 136 Hilltop Road, Lilly.

The meal includes pancakes, sausage, juice and coffee. Cost is $6 for adults, $3 for children under 9. Moms eat free.

Donations of clothing and non-perishable foods will be accepted from 10 a.m. to

2 p.m. Saturday at the Hollidaysburg Church of the Brethren, 1028 Penn St. (Route 36).

The church parking lot will serve as a collection site for the American Rescue Workers. People who drop off donations can receive a tax receipt.

n Abundant LIFE Assembly of God, 231 Howard Ave., Altoona, will host speaker Lloyd Vandenberg, of Canada, at 10 a.m. Sunday. He will talk about his personal experiences with sexual abuse, addiction and depression. Vandenberg is an ordained evangelist with the Pentecostal Assemblies of Canada and a licensed mechanic. He is a teaching evangelist and president of New Generation Ministry. His ministry is to “bring freedom to people and bring people to freedom.”

He and his family travel on a tour bus throughout North America, sharing contemporary worship and evangelistic ministry. He has spoken at churches in Canada, the United States, Holland and China.

n Rev. Glen Bayly will be the guest speaker during the 8 and 10:30 a.m. services Sunday at the First Baptist Church of Juniata County, Rt. 35, just south of Route 322. He will speak on the “Living for Christ in a Secular Culture.” During the Sunday school hour at 9:15 a.m., Bayly will offer a “Crash Course in Personal Evangelism.” During the 7 p.m. services, the message will be “Making a Difference for Christ in Central Pennsylvania.”

Bayly is a retired minister with the Christian Missionary Alliance. For 38 years, he served as the pastor of churches in Pennsylvania, Virginia and Vermont. He was the campus pastor for the Alliance Christian Fellowship at Penn State from 1985-92. Currently, he hosts a weekly Christian interview program, “The Lions’ Den University Report,” which is heard on stations from Philadelphia to Seattle.

The public is invited to attend the services. A free potluck meal will follow the 10:30 a.m. service.

The Juniata United Methodist Church will celebrate the outreach service of JUMC Angel Feet Ministry and its volunteers during the 10:45 a.m. Sunday, May 5, service at the church, 808 N. Fourth St.

Newry Lutheran Church, 1030 Shamrock Lane, Newry, will hold an indoor yard and bake sale from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday. Lunch will be available. Proceeds from the yard sale will benefit the Pittsburgh Ronald McDonald House and the bake sale and lunch will benefit a family from the church to help with medical and travel expenses for their daughter.

The church is located two blocks west of the traffic light in Newry (toward Blue Knob).

A model train show will be held Wednesday through Saturday, May 8-11, at Mardorf United Methodist Church. Anyone with trains to display should call 515-2507.

Admission is free to the show, which will be open from 5 to 8 p.m. May 8-10 and 9 a.m. to noon May 11. A light meal will be available May 8-10; cost is by donation.

A pancake breakfast will be held May 11. Cost is $5 for adults, $3 for children under 12 years of age. Tickets can be purchased by calling the church office at 944-1911.

A silent auction for a train set and theme baskets will be held during the show.

Ward Avenue Presbyterian Church will be host a Sounds of Freedom Concert at 3 p.m. May 18 at the church, 111 E. Ward Ave., Altoona. The Altoona Brass Collective will provide patriotic music including a salute to all branches of the military and Simply Grace will sing music of the ’40s and ’50s plus some patriotic songs.

Tickets are $10 each and may be purchased at the church. For more information, call the church at 942-6859.

Altoona Aglow Lighthouse will meet at 10 a.m. Saturday, May 11, at Center City Church, Pleasant Valley Boulevard, Altoona. Tim Toth, newly ordained pastor for Altoona Full Gospel Church, Lakemont, and his wife, Jennifer Toth, senior ordained chaplain at the Pennsylvania Chaplaincy Corps and local volunteer for women in recovery, will be the speakers. Jennifer will speak on Grace, while Tim will speak about the counterpoint of what grace is not.
