Providence Presbyterian Church, 2401 Broad Ave., will host its annual indoor yard sale from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday.

Registrations for the Taking Control Scholarship Program will take place from 9 to 11 a.m. Saturday in the downstairs fellowship hall of Mount Zion Missionary Baptist Church, 2121 Fifth Ave.

The program is for youth in Blair County, ages 11 to 18, who are interested in knowing about how they can take control in their own lives and be eligible for a scholarship after successful completing the program.

Participants are not required to have a religious affiliation.

Youth will learn about lifestyle, behavioral health, what is legal and appropriate, educational values for the future, relationships and making good choices.

The first 10 students to register will receive a free trip to the Railroaders Memorial Museum that will begin at noon on Saturday.

Refreshments will be served.

St. Joan of Arc Church, 692 Glendale Valley Blvd., Frugality, will serve a roast beef dinner from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Sunday.

The menu includes roast beef, mashed potatoes, homemade noodles, green beans, pickled eggs and beets, coleslaw, homemade bread, beverages and dessert.

The event includes opportunities to win baskets, instant bingo, 50/50 and a bake sale.

Cost is $10 for adults and $5 for children ages 5 to 12. Children younger than 5 eat for free. Takouts are available at those prices. For takouts, call 941-3340.

The annual ham pot pie supper will be served at 5 p.m. April 13 at the Upper Claar Church of the Brethren, Claysburg.

The buffet-style dinner will include homemade pot pie, ham, salad, roll and homemade deserts. Takeouts available. Donations will be taken at the door. For more information, call 239-5449.

Spaghetti dinner will be served from 5 to 7 p.m. Thursday at Christ United Methodist Church, 1359 Pennsylvania Ave., Tyrone.

The meal includes spaghetti, meatballs, coleslaw, bread, drinks and dessert. Cost is $6 for adults and $3 for children 12 and younger.

Donations of clothing and non-perishable foods will be accepted from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday at Hollidaysburg Church of the Brethren, 1028 Penn St. (Route 36).

The church parking lot will serve as a collection site for the American Rescue Workers. Participants can drop off donations and receive a tax receipt.

Grace’s Closet will hold a clothing giveaway, featuring spring and summer clothes, from 9 a.m. to noon April 13 and 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. April 16 at Grace Lutheran Church, 1114 N. Cambria St., Bellwood.

Prayer Day and luncheon for those who have lost a spouse through death will be held May 8 at the Immaculate Conception Church, 1640 New Germany Road, Summerhill. A Mass to remember loved ones will be held at 11 a.m. A luncheon will be held after the service.

Anyone who has lost a spouse through death in the Altoona-Johnstown Diocese is invited to attend. The event is sponsored by the Diocesan Family Life Office.

Hicks Memorial United Methodist Church will serve a soup lunch from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday in the social hall. The church is at 1211 Third Ave., Duncansville.

There will be soups and desserts, beverages and fellowship. All are welcome. The meal is free; donations are accepted.

A Healing Mass will be held at 7 p.m. Monday at the Cathedral of the Blessed Sacrament. The mass is intended for all of those in need of physical, emotional or spiritual healing, and for those who care for them.

All are welcome to come and to pray and to receive a blessing. Father Jonathan St. Andre, T.O.R., will be the main celebrant assisted by Father Christopher Panagoplus, T.O.R., Father Alfred Patterson OSB, Deacon MIke Anna and others. Music will be led by the Cathedral Prayer Group.

St. Mark Catholic Church, 416 Sixth Ave., will hold its final fish fry of this season of Lent from 4 to 6:30 p.m. today, Friday, April 5.

The menu includes baked or fried haddock, french fries or macaroni and cheese, stewed tomatoes or coleslaw, roll, butter, drink and dessert.

The cost is $11 for adults and $5 for children 12 and younger. Takeouts are available.

The Faith Baptist Cafe will serve a free community meal from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday at the Faith Baptist Church, 315 40th St., Altoona.

The menu includes meatball sandwiches, french fries, fruit salad and dessert.

For transportation, call 944-2894 by 3 p.m. today. All are welcome.

A special Lenten program, “What Did Jesus Eat?” will be held at 6:30 p.m. April 6 at East End United Methodist Church, 405 E. Hudson Ave., Altoona.

Rosemary Sue Ellis, former host of Food For Thought on Altoona Public Access and the author of “The Bible Diet: 40 Days to Cleanliness,” will present information and foods based on Scripture during this discussion and food sampling event. Food items include Jacob’s Red Lentil and Barley Stew, baked fish, roasted lamb, hummus, cucumber salad, olives, grapes, dried fruits, nuts, flat bread and more. Beverages include water, mint tea, grape juice, pomegranate juice and fresh squeezed lemonade.

Bill Yount from Blowing the Shofar Ministry in Hagerstown, Md., will speak at the 10 a.m. April 13 meeting of Altoona Aglow Lighthouse. The meeting will be held at Center City Church, 801 Pleasant Valley Blvd., Altoona. Those attending are asked to use the side door. Bottled water will be available at the meeting.

Yount is a longtime member of the Bridge of Life Church in Hagerstown, where he serves in leadership. He also served in prison ministry for 23 years. Currently, he travels, ministering in churches and Aglow circles, and he serves as an advisor at large for Aglow International.

All are welcome to attend the meeting.
