Lent services will be held at 7 p.m. Thursdays through April 18 at Mount Zion Missionary Baptist Church, 2121 Fifth Ave., Altoona.

Good Friday Seven Last Sayings will be held at 7 p.m. April 19. A sunrise service will be held at 7 a.m. April 21. Breakfast will be served after the service, followed by the

10 a.m. Resurrection Sunday service.

Jim Worthing, International recording artist, will present a concert of gospel music at 6:30 p.m. Sunday at Altoona Alliance Church.

In a career spanning over three decades, Worthing has appeared in 48 states, Canada, the Bahamas and Switzerland performing live for millions of people. His voice can be heard on more than 60 nationally and internationally released recordings. For the past 19 years, he has toured as a solo artist producing six solo projects including his newest release, “Committed To Love.” Worthing, a native of Altoona, makes his professional home base in Nashville, Tenn.

The public is invited to attend the concert. An offering will be accepted for Worthing’s ministry.

The Discalced Carmelite Nuns of Loretto invite the public to share in their private Novena in honor of St. Joseph will begin Monday and ends March 19. All intentions submitted to the nuns will be entrusted to the protection and intercession of Saint Joseph. In addition, intentions for employment and for holy and happy family life will be offered.

The regular monthly private novena honoring Our Lady of Mount Carmel and St. Therese will take place at this time as well. All intentions will be included in the special Novena prayers recited by the nuns after vespers each day of the Novena.

Benediction of the blessed sacrament takes place at 4 p.m .Sundays, followed by the veneration of the relic of St. Therese of the Child Jesus and the Holy Face.

St. Mark Catholic Church, 416 Sixth Ave., will hold a fish fry from 4 to 6:30 p.m. today. The menu includes baked or fried haddock, french fries or macaroni and cheese, stewed tomatoes or coleslaw, roll, butter, drink and dessert. The cost is $11 for adults and $5 for children 12 and younger. Takeouts available.

St. Therese of the Child Jesus Parish, Altoona, will hold Lenten Fish Fry Dinners from 4 to 7 p.m. Fridays during Lent through

April 12. Several choices of fish or shrimp entrees and a variety of side dishes and desserts are offered. The dinners are held in Father Kelly Hall, 25th Avenue and Fifth Street. Cost is $11 for adults and $7 for children under 12. Take-outs are available.

Clothing giveaway will be held from 9 a.m. to noon Saturday at Grace Lutheran Church, North Cambria Street, Bellwood.

This will be the last time to get winter clothing. A large variety of items are available, including winter boots, coats and shoes.

Hicks Memorial United Methodist Church will host Saturday Soup Lunches during Lent beginning this Saturday. The lunches will be held from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. in the social hall. The meal includes soups, desserts, beverages and fellowship.

Hicks Memorial is at 1211 Third Ave., Duncansville. All are welcome.

A Night of Worship — Lifting up our hearts to God — will be held at 6:30 p.m. March 15 at Gallitzin United Methodist Church, 405 Church St., Gallitzin. All are welcome to attend.

Second Avenue United Methodist Church’s Food Pantry will be open from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. March 15. Those attending should bring a photo ID, a piece of mail with name and address and birth certificates for any children in the home.

Kathy Troccoli, a singer, songwriter and author, will perform at Saint Francis University as part of her national tour. The “Comfort by Candlelight” inspiring night of encouragement, hope, laughter and love will be held from 7 to 8:30 p.m. March 18 in the Immaculate Conception Chapel.
