St. John’s Reformed Church, 906 Maple Avenue, will host the Hollidaysburg Free Soup Program Saturday and again on March 9. Soup, sandwich, bread and butter will be provided, as well as desserts and beverage.

There is no charge; an offering will be accepted. The Free Soup Program is open to everyone, church members and non-church members, those financially in need, the elderly and those just wishing to fellowship with fellow Christians.

A Shrove Tuesday pancake and sausage supper will be served from 5 to 7 p.m. Tuesday at Geeseytown Lutheran Church. Cost is $7 for adults, $3 for children 6-12 and free to children 5 and younger.

Warriors Mark United Methodist Church will hold a fish fry from 3 to 7 p.m. each Friday during Lent, beginning March 8 and ending April 12. The menu includes fried/baked haddock or chicken tenders or ham balls, french fries, macaroni and cheese, stewed tomatoes or an alternate vegetable, roll, coleslaw, applesauce, drink and dessert. Cost is $12 for adults, which includes one piece of haddock and one alternative meat. The meal is $7 for children ages 5-10 and free to children 4 and younger. For more information, call 632-6906.

Our Lady of Lourdes, 2700 Broad Ave., will hold a fish fry from 4:30 to 7 p.m. every Friday during Lent. Takeout meals will be available starting at 3:30 p.m.

The meals begin March 8 and end April 19 and will be served on Good Friday. Menu includes baked or hand-breaded haddock, french fries or macaroni and cheese, stewed tomatoes, applesauce or coleslaw, drink and homemade dessert.

Cost is $10.50 for adults and $7.50 for children younger than 12.

St. Mark Catholic Church, 416 Sixth Ave., will hold Friday Fish Fries from 4 to 6:30 p.m. March 8 and 22 and April 5. The menu is baked or fried haddock, french fries or macaroni and cheese, stewed tomatoes or coleslaw, roll, butter, drink and dessert. The cost is $11 for adults and $5 for children 12 and younger. Takeouts will be available.

Second Avenue United Methodist Church’s youth group will host the annual all-you-can-eat Fish Dinner Buffet from 4:30 to 7 p.m. Fridays during Lent, beginning March 8 and running through April 12. Cost is $11 for adults and $6 for children 12 and younger. Take-out available. The church is at 130 Second Ave., Altoona.

All-you-can-eat seafood buffet will be served from 4 to 7 p.m. each Friday during Lent at St Patrick’s, Newry, beginning March 8 and continuing through Good Friday, April 19. Choose from baked haddock, deep-fried fish, shrimp and clams, plus seven sides, two soups, beverage and dessert.

Cost is $13 for adults, $12 for seniors over 60 and $8 for children 5-12. Children under 4 can eat for free. All take-outs are $13.50.

Dinners are served in the school cafeteria at 731 Patrick Lane, Newry.

Second Avenue United Methodist Church will host the second food packing event with Rise Against Hunger at 10 a.m. March 9. These low-cost, highly nutritional meals are packed by volunteers and shipped all over the world to those in need. Rise Against Hunger aims to end hunger by 2030.

Simpson-Temple United Parish, 2212 Sixth Ave., Altoona, will hold a book, puzzle, CD and DVD sale in the Education Building from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. today and Saturday. The kitchen will open for a light lunch.

Champion Life Church’s Rockin’ Oldies Dance has been rescheduled to 7 p.m. May 17. The event will feature hits from the 1950s and 1960s. Participants are invited to dress in period outfits for a chance to win a prize.

Faith Baptist Cafe will offer a free community meal from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday at Faith Baptist Church, 315 40th St., Altoona. The menu will include a chicken patty sandwich, macaroni and cheese, mixed vegetables and dessert. To schedule a ride, call 944-2894 before 3 p.m. today.
