ASO’s holiday concert features vocal group
The Altoona Symphony Orchestra joins the Fantazia vocal ensemble of Hollidaysburg Area High School Dec. 1 with its holiday concert, “Home for the Holidays.”
The ASO annually performs a holiday-themed show with a school group each year and this year features Fantazia under the direction of Wendy Jo Nagy at the Mishler Theatre, Altoona.
“Our annual Christmas concert is always a festive concert filled with music of the holidays season,” said ASO Maestra Teresa Cheung.
“The audience can expect to hear familiar carols to the more contemporary holidays music. We select both sacred and secular Christmas music within beautiful orchestration and arrangements and we love partnering with guest groups,” Cheung said.
This concert is the first joint performance with Fantazia and also will feature the ASO’s Brass Ensemble.
“It is going to be a stunning musical concert! We are always on the look out for different guest groups and I am very pleased that the Fantazia has come to our attention. They are singing three big chorus numbers from “Home Alone” with orchestra accompaniment,” Cheung said.
Fantazia is the select vocal ensemble under the direction of Nagy, a secondary choral director for the school district who has taught choir for grades 7 to 12 and Adaptive Music for students with special needs in the district for 24 years.
“My students are thrilled to have the opportunity to sing with a professional symphonic orchestra,” Nagy said. “Maestra Cheung has been wonderful to work with and it will be a joy to help ring in the holiday season with this fabulous music.”
