The Anchormen will appear in concert at 6 p.m. July 15 at Clearfield Alliance Church, 45 Alliance Road, Clearfield.

Doors open at 5 p.m. An offering will be received.

Donations of clothing and non-perishable food will be accepted from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday at the Hollidaysburg Church of the Brethren, 1028 Penn St. (Route 36). The church parking lot will serve as a collection site for the American Rescue Workers. Those making donations can receive a tax receipt.

The general public and married couples are invited to an Outdoor Mass celebrated by Bishop Mark Bartchak to honor married couples at 7 p.m. July 15 at the Shrine of Our Lady of the Alleghenies, next to Basilica of St. Michael, in Loretto.

Those attending are urged to bring a lawn chair for seating outdoors. The Mass will be held indoors if it rains. Bartchak is the celebrant and homilist.

The 85th annual St. Benedict Parish Reunion Festival will be held July 13-15 at St. Benedict Church, 2310 Bedford St., Johnstown.

There will be food, games, bingo, a flea market and raffles, including a chance to win a 2018 Ford Ecosport SE or $18,000 cash.

A chicken and waffle dinner will be held from 4 to 7 p.m. July 13 and 11 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. July 15.

Entertainment on July 13 includes Tom Katz and Three of Hearts; July 14, Irish Pretenders with Irish Dancers and Ole ’97 Johnny Cash and June Carter Tribute Band; July 15, Walt Churchey and Jackie Kopko and Rosie and The Jammers. The seventh anniversary of the Steinbeisers and Friends will be held from 6 to 9 p.m.

July 14 at The Church of the Good Shepherd, 1650 Clay Ave., Tyrone. There will be music, door prizes and refreshments.

The annual Hoedown has raised more than $90,000 to help individuals and groups in the local community. Monetary donations will be accepted to give to the July recipient.

The 28th Street Church of the Brethren has called the Rev. Barron K. Deffenbaugh as its new lead pastor. Deffenbaugh will replace interim pastor the Rev. Janet Sell.

An installation service for Deffenbaugh will be held during the regular Sunday morning worship service at 10:05 a.m. July 15, with District Minister David Banazak officiating.

Deffenbaugh has an extensive ministry experience dating back to the 1990s when he served as a youth leader at the Locust Grove Church of the Brethren. He has also served as lead pastor of the Arbutus Church of the Brethren in Johnstown and the Associate Camp Director at Camp Harmony, Hooversville.

In his new role with the 28th Street Church of the Brethren, Deffenbaugh will continue the congregation’s work in the free lunch and food pantry ministries and seek to discern where God is continuing the call to ministry in the Altoona area.

Pastor Barron and his wife, Carolyn, are the parents of three children, Emilie, 17, Drew, 16, and Aaron, 12.

The Berean Baptist Church, 2465 Mill Road, Duncansville, will host its second annual Friends and Family Day from 1 to 7 p.m.

July 14. There will be games, gospel and southern gospel music, food and cold drinks. Everything is free.

Music and games for all ages begins at 1 p.m. There will be pulled pork, BBQ chicken, hotdogs, sides and desserts beginning at 5 p.m.

There will be gospel music throughout the day with local Christian singers and a special appearance by ‘The Lordsmen’ from West Virginia beginning about 6 p.m.

The Discalced Carmelite Nuns invite everyone who desires to take part in the Novena for the July 16 special Solemnity of Our Lady of Mount Carmel. It will begin Sunday and end on July 16.

After vespers during these days, the nuns will recite special Novena prayers for all the petitions that have been recommended to them, asking for the powerful intercession with Our Lord of Our Lady of Mount Carmel and her daughter, St. Therese of the Child Jesus of the Holy Face.

Every Sunday benediction of the Most Blessed Sacrament takes place at 4 p.m. followed by the veneration of the relic of St. Therese of the Child Jesus of the Holy Face. All are invited and welcome to attend.
