Morrison Cove church celebrating 40 years
‘Homecoming Sunday’ events planned
Morrison Cove Baptist Church will celebrate its 40th anniversary with this weekend’s “Homecoming Sunday.”
Everyone is invited, including all past members.
The schedule for the day starts with Sunday school at 9:30 a.m. followed by morning worship at 10:30 a.m.
A picnic dinner will be held immediately after the morning service. The day concludes with an outdoor service at 12:30 p.m.
Evangelist Duane Strout of Pensacola, Florida, will be the speaker for the afternoon service and will hold revival meetings at 7 p.m. Monday through Wednesday.
The church reached its 40th anniversary on May 3. The church held its first service led by Pastor George H. Keith on Wednesday, May 3, 1978, at the Garver YMCA in Roaring Spring, where the congregation continued to meet until membership increased and more space was needed.
In January 1980, Morrison Cove Baptist Church purchased the former Bakers Summit Bible Church building located along Route 867 near Bakers Summit.
In May 1981, Pastor Keith resigned.
Over the next four years, the pastorate was filled by Robert Lewis, Steven Waterhouse, several faithful men of the church, and pulpit supply by the Altoona Bible Institute.
In September 1985, Pastor James Beach accepted the pastorate and served faithfully until his retirement in June 2016 due to health reasons.
David Roberts served briefly as pastor until the current pastor, Aaron Musselman, began serving as the interim pastor in 2016 and accepted the call to be the full-time pastor in April 2017.
Morrison Cove Baptist Church is located 4 miles south of Roaring Spring on Route 867 near Bakers Summit.
