Choral institute sessions

The Academy of Sacred Music Choral Institute is returning to its roots and will conduct its choral skill development sessions and public performance in Altoona.

The institute will be held June 18 to 21 with a reduced registration fee of $25. The three workshops and the concert will be held evenings at St. John the Evangelist Church in Lakemont. Robert Long, director of music ministries at Corpus Christi Parish in Chatham, N.J., continues to lead the institute. He is the former director of music ministry at the Cathedral of the Blessed Sacrament and St. Patrick Cathedral in New York.

Dinner/basket auction

Revloc Presbyterian Church will hold a spaghetti dinner/basket auction from 3 to

7 p.m. April 28 at the Revloc Firehall. The fundraiser is to help cover the medical expenses for Jennifer (Laverick) Bagden, daughter of James and Judy Laverick.

In addition to other medical problems, Jennifer has been diagnosed with cancer and is continuing to take chemotherapy to fight the disease even though her medical plan is not covering the treatments.

Red Mass

All area judges, lawyers, law enforcement officials, friends and area residents of all faiths are invited to participate in the annual Red Mass/Law Day Lunch at Saint Francis University on April 27.

Red Mass will begin at 10:30 a.m. in the Immaculate Conception Chapel. Bishop Mark Bartchak, J.C.D., will serve as celebrant, and Father James Sean Code will deliver the homily.

Lunch will be served after Mass at the John F. Kennedy Student Center. The keynote address at the Law Day Lunch will be given by Justice Debra McCloskey Todd, Pennsylvania Supreme Court.

Law Day is a national day set aside to celebrate the rule of law in the United States. It underscores how law and the legal process contribute to the freedoms of all Americans, and it provides an opportunity to recognize the rule of courts in this democracy and the importance of jury service in maintaining the integrity of the courts.

Roast beef dinner

A roast beef dinner will be served from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Sunday at Our Lady of Mount Carmel, 136 Hilltop Road, Lilly. Cost is $10 for adults and all take-outs; $5 for children under 12; and free to children under 2, dine-in only. For more information, call 886-0205.

Healing services

Healing services will be held at 7 p.m. each evening April 22-25 at the Raystown Brethren Church, 8753 Raystown Road, Saxton. Speaker will be Pastor Jeff Laberge from Landmark Revival Christian Church. Praise and worship music will be led by Danielle Miller.

Spaghetti dinner

The East End United Methodist Church, 405 E. Hudson Ave., Altoona, will serve a spaghetti dinner from 11:30 a.m. to 6 p.m. May 5. Tickets may be purchased in advance from a member or by calling 944-7219 to order. Walk-ins are welcome. The meal is $9 for adults and $5 for children.
