Fear ‘N’ Beer Brewfest set for Oct. 14 at PNG Field

The leaves are starting to change, nights are getting a little cooler and everything pumpkin flavored has hit the grocery store shelves.

With Halloween creeping around the corner, you are probably looking for something to make you feel wicked. The Fear ‘N’ Beer Brewfest will have you showing up for the boos and the booze.

Altitude Entertainment and the Altoona Mirror have partnered to sponsor the very first Halloween beer festival in the area.

“After a very successful ‘Kegs & Corks’ event held in conjunction with our annual Taste of the Alleghenies event in February, the Altoona Mirror’s event marketing team and Altitude Entertainment thought it would be fun to team up,” said Candance Holiday, the event manager of the Altoona Mirror.

The event is scheduled for 1 to 4 p.m. on Oct. 14 at Peoples Natural Gas Field in Altoona.

“There will be at least 30 breweries, wineries and distilleries represented at Fear ‘N’ Beer, with breweries being the majority,” Holliday said.

She also confirmed that there will be more than 50 craft beers available for tasting at the event.

If ghosts and ghouls get a little peckish, food vendors will be available at the event.

“Not everyone in attendance will be in the mood for food, but because of it being an afternoon event, we wanted to have food concessions available,” Holliday said.

For Vampire VIP ticket holders, there will be a special “bite” included with the ticket cost.

Holliday said, “The Vampire VIP ticket option includes a catered selection of appetizers and snacks that will pair well with craft beers.”

As far as entertainment goes for the event, there is nothing to boo about. Will Jones of Altitude Entertainment said, “Q94 will be doing a live broadcast during the event, and it will be run through the PNG Field sound system. They will be kind of emceeing the affair.”

There also will be characters in costume at the Brewfest.

“We will be having ‘photo zombies’ interacting with guests. They will basically ‘photo zomb’ people, as opposed to ‘photo bomb,'” said Jones.

He added that there will not be jump scares at the event.

However, Jones said, “there will be some surprises and some awesome displays. If you are wondering if you should wear your Halloween best to the Brewfest, the answer is yes.

“We want everyone to get in the spirit of things, but it’s certainly not required,” Jones said.

Jones also confirmed that “there will be best costume prizes in both the male and female categories.”

According to Holliday, there is still time to get tickets.

“The VIP ticket option has limited availability, and we are expecting the regular priced tickets (sales) to increase rapidly in the next couple of weeks,” she said.

Goblin General Admission for $35 gets you admission to the event at 1 p.m. and a souvenir glass. Vampire VIP Tickets for $75 offer VIP early admission at noon, a catered lunch, a parking pass and a Fear ‘N’ Beer T-shirt.

On top of all the spooktacular goodness, a portion of the ticket sales will go to Mending Hearts Animal Rescue.

Holliday and Jones both hope for it to be an annual event.

“We have so many awesome things in store for our guests that we are trying to decide what we want to hold onto for future events to make them bigger and better,” Holliday said.
