Spaghetti dinner

A spaghetti dinner will be served from noon to 2 p.m. Sunday in the church hall of St. Catherine’s of Siena in Duncansville.

The cost is $7 for adults, $4 for children ages 4 to 12 and free for children under 4 years old. Takeouts are available.

Redemptorist Mission

St. Michael the Archangel Parish in Hollidaysburg will host a Redemptorist Mission Sept. 11-13.

Morning Mass will be held at 9 a.m., followed by Mission Talks, focusing on the challenge, cost and reward of discipleship. The Mission Talks during the 7 p.m. service will focus on encountering Jesus in the sacraments.

During the evening services, the Sacrament of the Sick will be celebrated on Sept. 11, the Sacrament of Reconciliation on Sept. 12 and the Sacrament of the Eucharist (Mass) on Sept. 13.

Redemptorist priest, Father Paul Bryan and Franciscan Sister Mary Sninsky will conduct the Mission.

Outdoor Mass

The last two outdoor Masses for the summer will be held at 7 p.m. Sunday and Sept. 3.

Sponsored by the Basilica of Saint Michael the Archangel in Loretto, the Masses will be celebrated at the Our Lady of the Alleghenies Shrine, next to the Basilica.

Those attending should bring a lawn chair for seating. If it rains, Mass will be celebrated inside the Basilica.

Last Blast of Summer

The 2017 Last Blast of Summer, sponsored by Frontline Ministries, will be held Sept. 3 at DelGrosso’s Park in Tipton.

Gates open at 8 a.m. Worship with Lindsay Salyards and Randy Zitterbart will be held at 11 a.m. Stars Go Dim will take the stage at 3 p.m., while Aaron Shust will be on stage at 7 p.m.

Parking, admission to the park and all stage events are free.

All day fun pass pricing is $20 per person. For groups of 10-19, passes are $18 per person, and for groups of 20 or more, passes are $15 per person. Children under 24 months of age are admitted free of charge to the water park, adult carousel and train when accompanied by an adult with proper admission.

Community Meal

Faith Baptist Cafe will serve the monthly community meal from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. Sept. 2. The meal is free and open to the public at Faith Baptist Church, 315 40th St., in the Highland Park section of Altoona.

This month’s menu includes Salisbury steak, scalloped potatoes, fruit salad, dinner roll and dessert. Contact the church office at 944-2894 before 3 p.m. Sept. 1 if you need a ride.

Ice Cream social

The Women’s Guild of the Loysburg Reformed Church will hold a public ice cream social from 5-8 p.m. Saturday to benefit the family of Berneta Gable of Snider Homestead Farm, New Enterprise, who is scheduled for surgery at Johns Hopkins Hospital, Baltimore, Md., the following week.

Donations will be received to benefit her family and help with travel, lodging and medical costs. In addition to a make-your-own ice cream sundae and cookie bar, the church women will be offering sloppy joes, hot dogs, potato, macaroni and pasta salads, snacks and drinks. All are invited.

Renewal Mass

In commemoration of the 50th anniversary of the Charismatic Renewal in the Catholic Church, a special Mass will be celebrated at 7 p.m. Monday at the Cathedral of the Blessed Sacrament. Father Bob Hilz, T.O.R., a veteran of the Renewal Movement, will be the celebrant.

Music will be lead by the Cathedral Charismatic Prayer Group Music Ministry. Refreshments will follow.

The Catholic Charismatic Movement began on a weekend retreat with college students and professors at Duquesne University in Pittsburgh in 1967. Since then, millions of Catholics worldwide have experienced the baptism of the Holy Spirit and have been active in the Movement.

All are welcome to attend the service.

Free festival

Canoe Creek Brethren in Christ Church will host a free festival from 3-7 p.m. Saturday at Williamsburg’s Riverside Park.

There will be free food — including hot dogs, nachos, popcorn, snow cones, cotton candy and watermelon — as well as live music, free school supplies and prizes. Everyone is invited to attend.

Outdoor worship service

An outdoor community worship service will be held at 6:30 p.m. Sunday at Jefferson Park, 118 Fourth Ave. S’mores will be served after the service.

This event is hosted by Bethany Lutheran Church and Second Avenue United Methodist Church.

Jesus Jam

Jesus Jam will be held from 4-7 p.m. Saturday at Grace Fellowship Church, Juniata Campus, 109 W. 14th Ave., Altoona. A free meal of hot dogs, chips, drink and a cookie will be available while supplies last.

In addition, the event will feature music and games. Backpacks will be given to students in kindergarten through sixth grade, while supplies last. In order to receive the backpacks and meal, participants will be given a ticket to get stamped at various tables at Jesus Jam.

Fall Sing

Entry requests for the First Grace Brethren Church Fall Sing are now being accepted. The Fall Sing will be held at 6 p.m. Oct. 29 at the church, 2932 Maple Ave., Altoona.

There is space for 10 gospel artists/groups to minister during this event.

Return to regular hours

Effective Sept. 3, Halfmoon Christian Fellowship Church, 1776 Halfmoon Valley Road, Port Matilda, will return to its regular hours. Sunday school begins at 9 a.m., followed by refreshments at 10 a.m. and the church service at 10:30 a.m. For more information, contact the church at 692-4178.
