Dixie Melody Boys

The Dixie Melody Boys, a popular Southern Gospel quartet, will present a series of concerts at area venues in August.

The group will present a concert at 4 p.m. Aug. 19 at Friendship Village Campground, 348 Friendship Village Road, Bedford.

The Dixie Melody Boys will also be featured during the evening service at 6 p.m. Aug. 20 at the Clearfield Missionary Alliance Church, 45 Alliance Road, Clearfield. Doors open at 5 p.m.

The Kinston, N.C.-based quartet has received a Grammy nomination and numerous Fan Award nominations from The Singing News Magazine, a fan and trade publication. The quartet, led by 50-year veteran and recent Southern Gospel Music Hall of Fame inductee Ed O’Neal, has more than 20 Top 40 hits, including eight Top 10 releases and a No. 1 single.


The eighth Novena of 2017 to Our Lady of Mount Carmel and Saint Therese (the Little Flower) offered by the Discalced Carmelite Nuns of Loretto will open on Aug. 22 and end on Aug. 30.

All intentions submitted to the nuns will be remembered with the special Novena prayers following the daily Holy Sacrifice of the Mass in the sister’s chapel.

Benediction of the Most Blessed Sacrament is held at 4 p.m. every Sunday and every first Friday of the month. Everyone is welcome to attend the Benediction followed by the veneration of the relic of Saint Therese of the Child Jesus of the Holy Face.

Those who desire to share in the graces and blessings of these nine days of prayer, and in the private prayers of the Carmelite Nuns during the Novena, are requested to send their petitions to Mother Prioress, Discalced Carmelite Monastery, Post Office Box 57, Loretto, PA 15940.

Aglow picnic

The Altoona Chapter of Aglow International will hold its annual picnic at noon Tuesday at the home of Sandy Maines, 299 Maines Drive, Tyrone. Food, drinks and table service are provided. If anyone wishes to do so, he or she may bring a casserole or dessert to share. All are welcome.
