Bishop Carroll students fast for Haiti mission

EBENSBURG — Students in Bishop Carroll Catholic High School’s campus ministry took part in a 30-hour food fast from 6 a.m. April 12 through noon April 13. Thirty juniors and seniors abstained from all food during that time, and spent the night in solidarity at the school. Each participant raised donations to benefit Heart and Hands Mission in Haiti.

“It was an opportunity to get a ‘taste’ of what hunger is like,” said Bishop Carroll’s religion teacher and campus ministry coordinator Barbara Condor. “We also had prayer experiences, learned about the plight of the people in Haiti and had fun, too.”

The event incorporated all of the Lenten practices of prayer, fasting and almsgiving. Students broke the fast with a shared meal at noon and reflected on the experience.
