Uncork the Alleghenies: Savor samples and help a cause

Patrons at this year’s Uncork the Alleghenies Wine Festival on March 18 can choose from among nearly two dozen wineries, two distilleries and 50 vendors of food, jewelry, cigars and other products, say organizers.

The seventh annual event at the Blair County Convention Center offers a free souvenir wine glass, reusable shopping bag, free caricatures, photo booth, music with a DJ, wine tastings, food samplings, specialty vendors, a silent auction and more, according to Jill Brazill and Jim Pastore.

A few new wineries and vendors are brought in every year, but look for regulars, too, said Brazill.

General admission tickets are $25 in advance and $30 at the door each for two sessions, one from noon to 4 p.m. and the second from 6 to 10 p.m.

Limited tickets to an expanded VIP room are $40, which includes a private reception an hour prior to the evening session. In addition to the wine glass and other amenities available for general admission, it also includes a signature, or “higher-end,” wine tasting, DelGrosso food and dessert samples.

Designated drivers tickets are available online only for $10.

Sponsored by Fox 8 TV, the event also includes a silent auction that benefits the Miracle League and its specially designed ballfield for handicapped children, said Pastore.

He said he expects the event to raise about $4,000 this year; it has raised a total of $25,000 for the Miracle League in the seven years of the event.

Pastore said the limited number of VIP tickets will likely sell out in advance. The general admission sessions have sold out occasionally, he said.

He urged interested patrons to check out the event’s website at www .fox8tv.com/uncork where tickets and more information, including bus trips from out of town and hotel packages, are available.
