Cresson Lake Playhouse receives grant

LORETTO — Cresson Lake Playhouse is the recipient of a 2016 Penelec Sustainable Energy Development grant to be used to upgrade its halogen theater lights to LED lighting instruments.

The $10,000 grant enabled CLP to convert half of their 50 lighting instruments to the newer technology, which lowered the overall electrical use. Since LED lighting instruments require much less electricity to operate and do not generate as much heat while in operation, CLP will be able to use less electricity to cool the theater during the summer and run the lights.

LED lighting instruments also provide different colors in lighting at the touch of a button, allowing CLP to modernize their lighting effects.

Contributions from theater patrons provided the matching funds CLP needed to convert the remaining halogen lighting instruments to LED by the end of the 2016 season.

CLP’s next season begins in May.
