Kenneth and Martha Wooden
Mr. and Mrs. Kenneth Wooden of Shelburne, Vt., observed their 60th wedding anniversary on Aug. 30. A family celebration was held earlier in the month.
Mrs. Wooden is the former Martha Braun, who was born and raised in Altoona.
The couple met in 1954 while Martha was a student at Philadelphia General Hospital School of Nursing and Ken was a mason apprentice. They exchanged letters while Ken served his country in Korea, then married on Aug. 30, 1958, at St. Paul’s Church in Burlington, N.J., Ken’s hometown.
An educator, author, journalist and lifelong child advocate, Ken was always supported in his career by Martha, a caring and compassionate nurse, editor, mother and volunteer rescue worker.
After living in Bucks County for many years, they acquired their beloved summer home Honey Hollow in Bolton, Vt., in 1973, then moved to Shelburne, Vt. permanently in 1983.
The couple have four children: Grace Gilbert-Davis of Shelburne, Vt., Rosemary Webb of Hinesburg, Vt., Jennifer Mitchell of Williston, Vt. and John Wooden of Studio City, Ca.
They also have eight grandchildren: Calvin and Sarah Gilbert, Sophia and Preston Webb, Chase and Grant Mitchell and Simone and Ward Wooden.
