Alfred and Angela Maddas

Mr. and Mrs. Alfred Benedict Maddas of Aaronsburg, formerly of Altoona, celebrated their 70th wedding anniversary on Nov. 27 with a dinner celebration held in their honor with gifts and special mementos.

The couple were married Nov. 27, 1947, at St. Joseph’s Roman Catholic Church, Bellwood. Mrs. Maddas is the former Angela M. Berardi.

Angela and Alfred took the midnight train to Pittsburgh for their honeymoon and stayed at the Omni William Penn Hotel on the ninth floor.

They have seven children: Judy Hall of Newton, N.C.; Jessica Maddas White of Statesville, N.C.; Alfred Maddas of Glen Richey; Joan Amatuzio of Charlottesville, Va.; James Maddas of Lakeland, Fla.; Angela Maddas-Mastrocola of Aaronsburg; and Joyce Maddas of Blue Bell.

They have 12 grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.

Mr. Maddas is a World War II veteran.

The couple owned and operated the Valley View Body Shop, Altoona, and worked together at their business for more than 20 years, retiring in 1985.

They are former members of the Cathedral of the Blessed Sacrament, Altoona.
