Huntingdon Mayfest and A Show for the Dogs This Weekend!

Here is a listing of Altoona area live music happenings for the weekend and week of Friday, April 26 through Thursday, May 2.

As live music continues to venture back outdoors with warmer temperatures, another of the first area spring festivals returns on Saturday in downtown Huntingdon. The 15th annual Mayfest celebration will take place along a five-block area of Washington Street, featuring an assortment of displays, food and other vendors, children’s activities and lots of live music. (See the listing below for the event’s complete musical itinerary.) And keeping with past tradition, each block will spotlight a historical time period with decorations and period costumes. Mayfest runs from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., and admission is free.

And McGarvey’s will host a special fundraiser on Friday night to raise awareness and funds to help a local dog rescue organization. “Eleana’s A Darrah Bull Birthday Bash” will raise money and awareness for A Darrah Bull Bully Rescue, a Blair County-based non-profit organization dedicated to caring for homeless dogs in the area through providing foster care until permanent loving homes can be found for them. The event starts at 8 p.m., and will feature performances by three bands: State College’s Same Old Haunt, Altoona’s Jean Claude Trans-Am and Maryland indie-rock duo SuperMotorcycle. Donation at the door is $10 per person, with 100 percent of the proceeds going to A Darrah Bull Bully Rescue.

For outdoor shows, in the event of inclement weather, please call or use social media to check ahead to make sure the show is still taking place, especially if you are driving any distance to attend.

Check out and support the area live music! And if you celebrate heavily while doing so, please designate a sober driver or call a taxi to get you home.
