Valentine’s Leftovers and Riding the Mysterytrain!
Here is a listing of Altoona area live music happenings for the weekend and week of Friday, February 15 through Thursday, February 21.
With Valentine’s Day just passed, several Valentine’s-themed dances and music events will take place this weekend, and some are in the listing below.
Central PA-based psychedelic/jam-rock enthusiasts Mysterytrain will anchor their annual Pajama Jam event this weekend. Originally scheduled for last month but postponed due to wintry weather, “Willie’s Good Lovin’ Pajama Jam” will take place from Friday afternoon through Saturday night inside at the Sinking Valley Fairgrounds. A number of bands and solo performers will perform throughout the weekend, with Mysterytrain – these days singer, guitarist and founder Dan Klock, rhythm guitarist Gary McCloskey, percussionist and vibraphonist Jacob Haqq-Misra, keyboardist and singer Gina and drummer Chuck Bailey – performing to close out Saturday night’s music. Check the listing below for the performance line-up for both days and ticket/admission prices.
For ukulele enthusiasts, Vermont-based ukulele specialist Ben Carr will present a workshop and concert on Saturday evening at the Altoona LaunchBox in downtown Altoona. The “Composing a Chord Melody Workshop” will begin at 6 p.m., as Ben will instruct attendees on how to arrange songs and play both chords and melodies at the same time. Ben will then perform a concert following the workshop. Admission is $15 for just the workshop, or $20 for both the workshop and concert. The event is presented by the Allegheny Ukulele Kollective.
For outdoor shows, in the event of inclement weather, please call or use social media to check ahead to make sure the show is still taking place, especially if you are driving any distance to attend.
Check out and support the area live music! And if you celebrate heavily while doing so, please designate a sober driver or call a taxi to get you home.
