Zombies, Fall Foliage, Apple Cider Fests and More!

Here is a listing of Altoona area live music happenings for the weekend and week of Friday, October 5 through Thursday, October 11.

Among the weekend’s highlights, the zombie apocalypse descends upon downtown Altoona again with the third annual Zombietown USA. This year’s Zombietown will again feature a wide variety of zombie-themed events, including street vendors, children’s activities, face-painting, a meet-and-greet with celebrities from the film “Dawn of the Dead,” a Halloween Parade (Saturday at 4 p.m.), a Saturday night showing of the zombie movie classic “Night of the Living Dead,” and live music. The festivities kick off Friday evening at Altoona’s Railroaders Museum with the “Zombie Prom,” featuring a zombie contest, a paranormal ghost hunt at the Museum, and live music from local Black Sabbath tribute Hand Of Doom and local band Agent Smith’s Alice In Chains tribute, Agent In Chains. Friday’s festivities begin at 6 p.m. The Zombietown activities move across the railroad tracks to Heritage Plaza on Saturday, beginning at 10 a.m. See the listing below for the musical entertainment slate, and for more information, visit the Zombietown website at zombietownusa.com.

Fall festival season cranks up this weekend with the first two days of the two-weekend Bedford Fall Foliage Festival in downtown Bedford, featuring a multitude of arts and crafts vendors, food vendors, children’s activities, and live music on two stages. Admission to the festival is free. See the listing below for Saturday and Sundays’ music schedule.

Prince Gallitzin State Park presents their annual Apple Cider Festival on Sunday at Muskrat Beach on Glendale Lake. This festival will again feature plentiful arts and crafts vendors, live cider pressing, children’s activities and live music. (The day’s music schedule was not available as of this posting.) Note that the Park will be offering pontoon shuttle service from across the lake to the festival from the Beaver Valley Marina and Killbuck boat launches, for $5 per person round trip. Admission to the festival is free.

For outdoor shows, in the event of inclement weather, please call or use social media to check ahead to make sure the show is still taking place, especially if you are driving any distance to attend.

Check out and support the area live music! And if you celebrate heavily while doing so, please designate a sober driver or call a taxi to get you home.
