CD Release Events This Weekend!
Here is a listing of Altoona area live music happenings for the weekend and week of Friday, February 16 through Thursday, Feb. 22.
Among the activities happening on area live music stages this weekend are two shows celebrating the releases of new CD’s by local bands and artists. Huntingdon-based singer, songwriter, guitarist and mandolin player Dylan Miller has issued his first solo recording, called “Carrion.” Formerly half of the duo Strait & Miller with Chris Strait, Dylan introduces five new original songs on the recording, which features appearances by several familiar music scene names: Daniel Collins on fiddle, Chris Rattie on drums, Jason “Junior” Tutwiler on slide guitar, Mama Corn’s Johnny Stevens on harmonica, Olivia Jones on backing vocals and more. The CD release event will take place on Friday evening at A.C. Darby Studio, an art facility at 417 Penn Street in Huntingdon. The event will feature a performance by Dylan, as well as an Open Mic/Open Stage. The event starts at 7:30 p.m., and will feature a potluck menu and some refreshments (visitors may also bring their own covered dishes and refreshments). An art raffle will also take place, with proceeds helping with Dylan’s tour expenses, as Dylan will embark on a performance tour of the Northeast and New England in spring to promote the recording.
Another CD-release event will take place on Saturday night at the Castle Pub in Ebensburg, as Nanty Glo-based hard rock band One Adam 12 celebrates the issuing of their second album, “Sophomore Jinx.” Featuring singer/guitarist Lloyd Rummell, guitarist Bill Stiles, bassist Joe Stiles, drummer Brandon Adams and sample and special effects artist Anthony Dostal, One Adam 12’s sound mixes together elements of rock, punk, surf, metal, alternative and more. The group frequently embraces horror movie topics in their song compositions, a theme established on their 2016 debut album “Earworm.” Saturday’s CD-release event begins at 10 p.m., and will feature performances by One Adam 12, along with band guests Fyre and Post Traumatik.
If you are seeking a new band on stage this weekend, McGarvey’s will welcome Syracuse, New York-based rock band The Spring Street Family on Saturday night. Formed in 2013, this four-member group performs heavy rock with a funk backbone and elements of reggae and other flavors. The group has performed throughout the Northeast, including Arlene’s Grocery in New York City, the Hard Rock Cafe in Myrtle Beach and other locations. They won the Syracuse Area Music Award (SAMMY’s) for Best New Artist in 2015. Saturday’s show will begin at 10:30 p.m.
For outdoor shows, in the event of inclement weather, please call or use social media to check ahead to make sure the show is still taking place, especially if you are driving any distance to attend.
Check out and support the area live music! And if you celebrate heavily while doing so, please designate a sober driver or call a taxi to get you home.
