Josh Returns, Cabin Fever, Petty Crime and Jane Lee Hooker!

Here is a listing of Altoona area live music happenings for the weekend and week of Friday, Jan. 26 through Thursday, Feb. 1.

This weekend and upcoming week promise to be busy on the area music scene, with several notable events and plenty of action on local stages.

Josh Gallagher returns to the Mishler Theatre for a concert on Saturday night. The Cresson native, who rose to national prominence when he reached the finals of Season 11 of NBC Television’s “The Voice” in 2016, will entertain with his mix of original country songs, new songs and a few select country favorites. Tickets are $35 per person, and a few seats still may be available.

The Blair County Respiratory Disease Society presents their “Cabin Fever” fundraiser on Friday evening at the Jaffa Shrine. The fun starts at 6 p.m., with food, prize giveaways, and Flight 19 providing the music. Tickets are $15 in advance and $20 at the door, with all proceeds benefiting the Respiratory Disease Society.

McGarvey’s will host a special performance on Saturday evening. Several area musicians will collaborate and perform during “Petty Crime: A Tribute to the Music of Tom Petty.” Brian Elliott, Todd McKeone, Aislinn Feathers, Hunter Karns, Mike Wertz, Jarrett Bickel and Sam Thurau will celebrate Petty’s legacy with a selection of his popular songs and a few curios. The music will kick off at 10 p.m. with an opening set from Ed N’Born.

McGarvey’s also presents a night of blues on Thursday, headlined by the first area appearance of New York City-based all-female blues band Jane Lee Hooker. Since forming in 2013, the group has performed nationwide, and has played at such venues as New York’s B.B. King Blues Club, Houston’s Continental Club, Antone’s Record Shop in Austin, Texas and more. They have shared stages with such names as Wilco, Beck, Southside Johnny & the Asbury Jukes and others. According to their biography, Jane Lee Hooker is a “blistering blues monster capable of whispering in your ear before stomping on your heart.” Opening the show will be area favorites Felix & the Hurricanes and the Rogan Allen Project. The doors open at 6 p.m.

And the Bellwood-Antis Public Library will host their fifth annual “Sips and Snacks in the Stacks” fundraiser on Saturday evening. The night will feature wine-tasting from local wineries, gourmet appetizers, and live music from area duo Raining Blue and “Music Man” Ron Balestino. The event runs from 7 to 10 p.m. Tickets are $20 per person, and can be purchased in advance at the library. Proceeds benefit the library.

For outdoor shows, in the event of inclement weather, please call or use social media to check ahead to make sure the show is still taking place, especially if you are driving any distance to attend.

Check out and support the area live music! And if you celebrate heavily while doing so, please designate a sober driver or call a taxi to get you home.
