Fall Fests’ Last Gasps and Halloween Around the Corner!
Here is a listing of Altoona area live music happenings for the weekend and week of Friday, Oct. 20 through Thursday, Oct. 26.
With colder fall temperatures starting to arrive, outdoor fall festival season is winding down, with a few more festival events taking place this weekend. And the first Halloween-themed events start to appear this weekend as well.
Morrisons Cove Memorial Park in Martinsburg will host their Fall Festival event on Saturday from noon to 7 p.m., featuring vendors, food, children’s activities, and live music from Felix & the Hurricanes beginning at 4 p.m. Admission is free.
For a short roadtrip, Akersville – situated in Fulton County just southeast of Breezewood – presents their third annual Fall Festival on Friday and Saturday afternoons. This festival will present a variety of arts and crafts vendors, food, children’s activities and live acoustic music both days. Admission to the festival is free, and proceeds benefit the restoration of the Akersville Community Church and Schoolhouse.
Music fans can initiate their 2017 Halloween costumes at a few events this weekend, including Friday evening’s “Red, White & Boo” benefit at The Casino at Lakemont Park. The event supports Squad 41 of the Armed Forces Mothers, who support active duty military members and their families. The event will feature a pasta dinner, prizes, and live music from Felix & the Hurricanes. Tickets are $20 per person.
The Anvil in Altoona presents a Punk Rock Halloween Show on Saturday evening, with six bands taking the stage. Among the bands are Brooklyn, New York’s Fat Heaven, Pittsburgh’s Dissidente, Frederick, MD’s Double Motorcycle, plus Altoona punk-rocking favorites X’s For Eyes, The Cassettes and State College’s Owned By A**holes. The show starts at 5:30 p.m., and admission is $5 per person.
For outdoor shows, in the event of inclement weather, please call or use social media to check ahead to make sure the show is still taking place, especially if you are driving any distance to attend.
Check out and support the area live music! And if you celebrate heavily while doing so, please designate a sober driver or call a taxi to get you home.
