County Fair Season Continues!

Here is a listing of Altoona area live music happenings for the weekend and week of Friday, Aug. 4 through Thursday, Aug. 10.

County fair season continues, as the Clearfield County Fair reaches its climax this weekend with two marquee rock concerts, and the Huntingdon County Fair then takes the local fair spotlight starting on Sunday. The current incarnations of southern rock favorites 38 Special and The Outlaws perform at the Clearfield County Fair on Friday night, while three 1980s rock names – Queensryche, Kix and Autograph – will take the stage on Saturday. The Huntingdon County Fair will feature nightly entertainment from local and regional bands and performers on its Midway stage; check the listings below for more information.

This year’s “Alive @ 5” Summer Concert Series at Altoona’s Railroaders Museum wraps up on Friday night, featuring New York-based Styx tribute group Rockin’ the Paradise with local ’80s rock celebrants Teazed opening.

And a homecoming show provides a highlight for this week’s indoor live music happenings…In 2005, Carrolltown native and musician John Solinski made the decision to relocate to southern Florida and “live the dream,” and has since established himself as a solo acoustic entertainer who regularly plays at Irish Kevin’s Bar in Key West. John is taking his annual “vacation” from Key West and will perform with his brother, Red, at the Barnesboro VFW in Northern Cambria on Tuesday evening beginning at 8 p.m.

For outdoor shows, in the event of inclement weather, please call or use social media to check ahead to make sure the show is still taking place, especially if you are driving any distance to attend.

Check out and support the area live music! And if you celebrate heavily while doing so, please designate a sober driver or call a taxi to get you home.
