Summer Fun, Fairs and Celebrations!

Here is a listing of Altoona area live music happenings for the weekend and week of Friday, July 28 through Thursday, Aug. 3.

The summer season continues with more outdoor concerts, festivals, celebrations and fair season getting under way.

The 157th Clearfield County Fair starts on Sunday, with multiple activities taking place throughout the week. Live music will again be a part of this year’s festivities, with several marquee acts taking the stage at the Grandstand, and local and regional acts performing on the Grove stage. Headlining marquee acts this year include contemporary Christian music artists Matthew West with Zach Williams on Tuesday, country performer Cole Swindell with Alaska & Madi on Wednesday, 38 Special and The Outlaws on Friday, and Queensryche, Kix and Autograph on Saturday. Several celebrations mark the weekend entertainment slate. The Swiss Club marks their 101st anniversary with festivities, including Flight 19 performing acoustic on Saturday evening, and Greg Burley performing on Sunday afternoon. Meanwhile, the Unter Uns Musical & Entertainment Society presents their second annual Music Festival on Saturday afternoon starting at 3 p.m. The event will showcase bands and musicians who regularly participate in the Unter Uns’ weekly Wednesday Open Mic Night, including The House Band, The McCaulley Project and Flashpoint, before an “All-Star Jam Band” featuring other participating Open Mic musicians will finish out the event. The Music Festival is open to the public; admission is $5/person.

The new Roundhouse Harley Davidson will feature live music during their Grand Opening this weekend. Flight 19 performs acoustic on Friday evening, while Felix & the Hurricanes perform on Saturday afternoon.

Downtown Altoona’s Heritage Plaza will host its first ever National Night Out Against Crime celebration on Tuesday evening. The festivities start at 6 p.m. with activities featuring local police, fire and first responders, food and refreshments, and live music with the band Kicked In starting at 7 p.m. Kicked In features former members of popular area bands Kyx and Inside Out (Altoona group). Admission is free, and the public is invited.

And Cresson Lake Playhouse will host the second installment of this year’s “Cresson Lake Playhouse Unplugged 2017” series on Monday evening. The music will begin at 7:30 p.m. at the Playhouse, and feature a wide assortment of area musical performers doing a wide selection of songs. Participants will include (both solo and as parts of duos) Cristin Caroff, Gina Volpe & Jonathan O’Harrow, Davey Beyer, Dani Vella, Joe Caroff, Mikayla Fox, Mikayla Hazy, Mike Hale, Mariah Duman, Libby Lees, Tony Anthony, Trevor Tarwater, Taylor Koenigsberg, Sam & Aaron Caplea, Sarah Everett, Ayden Stiffler, Rhys Long, Jude Caroff, Adam Sauka and Jake Kopco. Tickets are $12 per person and can be purchased in advance or at the door; seating is limited. The next installment of the “Cresson Lake Playhouse Unplugged” series will take place on Monday evening, September 11.

For outdoor shows, in the event of inclement weather, please call or use social media to check ahead to make sure the show is still taking place, especially if you are driving any distance to attend.
