Fire Carnivals and Arts Festivals!

Here is a listing of Altoona area live music happenings for the weekend and week of Friday, June 30 through Thursday, July 6.

Two fire company carnivals and two prominent Centre County arts festivals are among the highlights of the area live music slate over the next seven days.

The Cresson Volunteer Fire Company’s annual Carnival continues through Saturday night, with live music both Friday and Saturday nights. Raging Slagg performs country favorites on Friday, while Locked & Loaded entertains with rock, pop and country favorites on Saturday. Music starts at 8 p.m. both nights, and admission is free. Meanwhile, Columbia Fire Company in Osceola Mills continues their annual week-long 4th of July celebration with live music both Friday and Saturday nights. Flight 19 brings their rocking party on Friday night, while Felix & the Hurricanes bring festivities to a close on Saturday night. Music starts 8 p.m. both nights, with the Hurricanes’ performance following the festival’s fireworks display.

Centre County arts festival week is nearly upon us as both the 51st annual Central Pennsylvania Festival of the Arts in downtown State College and the 25th annual People’s Choice Festival of Pennsylvania Arts & Crafts in Boalsburg launch this week. The Central PA Festival of the Arts kicks off Wednesday with Children’s Day, while People’s Choice starts on Thursday. See listings below for Thursday performer schedules for both events (Friday through Sunday will be included in next week’s listing).

Altoona’s Railroaders Museum continues the Alive @ 5 Summer Concert Series on Friday night with U2 tribute band U2 By UV. Formed in south Florida in 2004, U2 By UV has brought their celebration of the U2 concert experience to audiences throughout the United States, Canada, Mexico and South America. Opening the show will be rising area rock and country performers Rewind. The music kicks off at 6 p.m.

And area summer wing fests are in full swing. The Legion Park Wingoff at Hollidaysburg’s Legion Park continues on Thursday with Shallow 9 providing the music, while the Tussey Wingfest at Tussey Mountain Amphitheater near Boalsburg continues on Thursday with music from Feats of Strength and My Hero Zero.

For outdoor shows, in the event of inclement weather, please call or use social media to check ahead to make sure the show is still taking place, especially if you are driving any distance to attend.

Check out and support the area live music! And if you celebrate heavily while doing so, please designate a sober driver or call a taxi to get you home.
