July 4th Weekend Musical Fireworks!

Here is a listing of Altoona area live music happenings for the weekend and week of Friday, June 30 through Thursday, July 6.

The extended July 4th holiday weekend will feature plenty of live music events around the area, with some paired with fireworks displays.

Altoona’s Railroaders Museum helps kick off the weekend with the latest installment of its Alive @ 5 Summer Concert Series, featuring New Jersey-based Tom Petty tribute group Damn the Torpedoes. Together since 2007, Damn the Torpedoes has entertained multiple audiences with their accurate depiction of the Tom Petty sound, as well as capturing the spirit of Tom Petty & the Heartbreakers’ live performances. Local favorites Agent Smith open the night, with music getting under way at 6 p.m.

For fireworks fans, Patton borough sets off their 4th weekend fireworks on Saturday night beginning at 10. Afterward, a post-fireworks jam will happen at the Patton VFW, with Rick Ramsey, Josh Yahner and Ed Hofer hosting. Also on Saturday night, Jackson Monsour performs a concert at the Shawnee Lake Beach starting at 6:30 p.m., followed by a fireworks display at 10 p.m.

On Monday evening, This Albatross will perform at Gallitzin Athletic Field starting at 6:30 p.m., with fireworks following at 9:30 p.m. Meanwhile in Huntingdon, Anita Roseborough performs at Stone Town Cafe & Gallery beginning at 7 p.m., preceding Huntingdon’s annual Independence Day fireworks display. The Cresson Fireman’s Carnival kicks off on Monday evening, with Felix & the Hurricanes taking the stage at 7:30 p.m. (See the listing below for the carnival’s entertainment for Tuesday through Thursday.) And Jim Donovan & the Sun King Warriors headline a special Independence Day eve “Hot Summer Nights” concert in downtown Bedford Monday evening. Free Donuts – the duo of Kenny Fetterman and Michal Wiles – starts the music at 6 p.m.; admission is free.

Independence Day, Tuesday, features musical fireworks at several events. The annual Central Pennsylvania 4th Fest will feature live music on three stages surrounding Penn State’s Beaver Stadium starting at 4 p.m., highlighted by a performance by rising country star Adley Stump at 6:30 p.m. (See the listing below for the complete 4th Fest performance schedule.) The music precedes one of the biggest fireworks displays in the eastern half of the country, starting after 9 p.m. Also, Jerry Carnicella and White Shadow host the annual Patton Library fundraiser concert at Patton Park, with performances from White Shadow, the Beatlemaniacs and more; the entertainment kicks off at 1 p.m. The second night of the Cresson Fireman’s Carnival on Tuesday night will feature local country-rock favorites The Chrome Hearts starting at 7:30 p.m. And the bands Happy Hour and Chris Woodward & Shindiggin’ will provide music at Fort Bedford Park in Bedford starting at 5 p.m., with fireworks taking place afterward.
