Blair County Arts Festival Weekend!

Here is a listing of Altoona area live music happenings for the weekend and week of Friday, May 19 through Thursday, May 25.

The big highlight on this weekend’s live music slate is the 50th annual Blair County Arts Festival, happening at Penn State Altoona on Friday and Saturday. This year’s Festival slate features plenty of area music favorites such as Chris Vipond & the Stanley Street Band, Born and the Beanstalk, Miss Melanie & the Valley Rats, Mama Corn, Felix & the Hurricanes and more. Some special features of this year’s Festival include the first time area appearance of traveling acoustic Americana trio The Coteries; the group is logging miles this weekend, playing a potato festival in North Carolina on Friday, performing at the Arts Festival on Saturday afternoon, and then heading to perform an evening show in Hazleton. Another feature is Saturday Food Court closers Walkney, playing their first Altoona show in more than a year. And The U.S. Sound Theatre reunites to deliver their exciting brassy sounds to close the Festival on Sunday afternoon. Admission to the Festival is free; a small parking fee helps fund the festival.

The area summer concert season continues to heat up on Thursday with the first installment of Hollidaysburg’s Downtown Live! Summer Concert Series. Felix & the Hurricanes kick off the season on The Diamond in downtown Hollidaysburg starting at 6 p.m. Admission is free.

Check out and support the area live music! And if you celebrate heavily while doing so, please designate a sober driver or call a taxi to get you home.
