Altoona In Bloom, Mother’s Day Music!

Here is a listing of Altoona area live music happenings for the weekend and week of Friday, May 12 through Thursday, May 18.

Among the highlights during Mother’s Day weekend is the inaugural Altoona In Bloom Street Fair, happening at downtown Altoona’s Heritage Plaza on Friday evening and Saturday. The Street Fair will feature children’s rides and activities, a farmer’s market and street vendors, and live music. (See listing below for scheduled performers both days.) The Street Fair starts at 5 p.m. on Friday, and at noon Saturday. Proceeds from the Street Fair benefit Support Services for Veterans’ Families.

On area venue stages, the U.S. Hotel presents two noteworthy shows, welcoming Johnstown-based acoustic duo The Evergreens on Friday evening, and Nashville-based performers Steel Blossoms on Thursday night.

McGarvey’s welcomes the return of Pittsburgh psychobilly favorites the Legendary Hucklebucks on Saturday night. Opening for them will be rising local punk rock favorites The Flannels and The Snips.

Locality art space in downtown Bedford welcomes Harrisburg-based bluegrass performers Colebrook Road on Friday evening, with singer-songwriter John Karns opening. The show begins at 7:30 p.m.

Check out and support the area live music! And if you celebrate heavily while doing so, please designate a sober driver or call a taxi to get you home.
