Easter Weekend Live Music!

Here is a listing of Altoona area live music happenings for the weekend and week of Friday, April 14 through Thursday, April 20.

The Easter holiday weekend features plenty of live music events, including an appearance by a prominent and legendary punk rock name.

C.J. Ramone, who played bass with the legendary Ramones from 1989 to 1996, will bring his touring band to McGarvey’s on Saturday night, headlining a four-band show. C.J. replaced original member Dee Dee Ramone, and he sang on many well-known Ramones songs. He and his current band tour throughout the country, doing his own original songs plus many Ramones favorites. Opening the show will be local punk rock favorites Railroad City Murder Machines, X’s For Eyes and The Flannels. Saturday’s show begins at 9 p.m.

A number of area favorites are on stages this weekend. Flight 19 will provide the music for the annual Burgi’s Low Life Riders Good Friday Bash, happening Friday evening at the Bavarian Aid Society. The event is a fundraiser, with proceeds helping out the beneficiaries of Burgi’s Low Life Riders’ annual charity ride later this summer. The music starts at 8:30 p.m., and donation is $50/person, which includes music, dinner and prizes. Flight 19 then returns to the Four Dees Lounge on Saturday night.

Also on stage this weekend are Matt Wagner, The Syrins, Greg Burley, Felix and the Hurricanes, Rokkandy, Bone Jacked and more.

Live music takes a break from area stages on Easter Sunday; meaning that the weekly Sunday appearances by Felix & the Hurricanes at the Black & Gold Tavern and The Band Oz at the U.S. Hotel will not take place; they will both return next weekend.

As part of Penn State Altoona’s week-long celebration of Earth Week, a special matinee open mic event will take place on Thursday afternoon from noon to 1 p.m. in the Misciagna Family Arts Center. Students, faculty members and guests are invited to perform their favorite environmentally-themed songs at the “Sounds Green to Me” open mic. Admission is free, and the public is welcome to attend.

Check out and support the area live music! And if you celebrate heavily while doing so, please designate a sober driver or call a taxi to get you home.
