Punk’s Not Dead in Altoona!

Here is a listing of Altoona area live music happenings for the weekend and week of Friday, March 10 through Thursday, March 16.

Many music trends come and go, and rise and fall in popularity as times change. But some forms of music endure, and on the Altoona music scene, punk rock is one of them. Altoona’s punk scene has seen some ups and downs through the years, but attendance to punk rock events has been steady, and in recent years, vibrant and strong. Celebrating that fact, McGarvey’s will host the “Who Says It’s Dead?” Punk Fest on Saturday night, when seven different area punk-driven musical acts will throw down their punk-rocking fury. One of the anticipated highlights of this show will be the return of former area punk force Lose The Name. Also performing will be current punk-rocking favorites Xs For Eyes, Railroad City Murder Machines, The Whatleys, The Flannels, The Snips and Kevo. The fun begins at 8 p.m.

McGarvey’s will also host a triple-bill of bands from the American heartland on Friday night. Touring Michigan-based groups The Devil’s Cut and Jason Alarm, plus Nebraska-based rock group St. Christopher Webster will take the stage.

Other favorites on area stages this weekend include Triple Threat at Family Pizza and 100 Proof at The Cantina on Friday night; and Flight 19 at the Four Dees Lounge, No Angels at Family Pizza & Pub and The Chrome Hearts at the Old Canal Inn on Saturday night. And of course, Felix & the Hurricanes reliably close out the weekend Sunday night at the Black & Gold Tavern. There’s lots of other performances to choose from; check out the listing below for more shows.

Check out and support the area live music! And if you celebrate heavily while doing so, please designate a sober driver or call a taxi to get you home.
